Test and tag services on the Gold Coast
Portable appliances and leads take a beating in workplaces, and a damaged cord is one of the most common causes of electric shock at work. We inspect, test and tag your equipment to AS/NZS 3760, tag out anything unsafe and keep a register that shows what was tested, when and when it is next due.

When your equipment is due for testing
Testing intervals depend on the type of workplace and how hard the equipment is used. These are the usual triggers.
What's included in test and tag
Every item gets a visual inspection and an electrical test, not just a sticker.
Visual inspection
Plugs, cords, casings and strain relief checked for damage before any electrical test is run.
Electrical testing
Earth continuity, insulation resistance and leakage tests with calibrated equipment, recorded against each item.
Portable RCD testing
Portable safety switches and RCD powerboards trip-time tested, as AS/NZS 3760 requires.
Tags and register
Durable tags with the test date and next due date, a full register and failed items tagged out of service.
How much does test and tag cost on the Gold Coast?
Test and tag starts from $6 per item, with a minimum charge per visit. Portable RCDs, three-phase equipment and items that need minor repairs, such as a replacement plug, are priced separately. Sites on a regular schedule or a maintenance contract get the same per-item rate on every visit.

How a test and tag visit works
01
Book a time
We book around your work, including early starts on construction sites and quiet times in offices.
02
Inspect and test
Each item is inspected and tested on site, so equipment is only out of use for a minute or two.
03
Tag and tag out
Passed items are tagged with the next due date. Failed items are tagged out and set aside.
04
Register and reminders
You receive the register within 24 hours, and we remind you before the next round is due.
Standards and compliance
Testing is carried out to AS/NZS 3760 (in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment) by our commercial team, led by Ben Hartley. Construction and demolition sites follow AS/NZS 3012. Queensland's Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 requires testing of equipment used in certain workplaces, such as construction, manufacturing and commercial cleaning, and our register gives you the record to show it.

FAQs
Test and tag questions
What workplaces ask us before booking.
How often does equipment need to be tested and tagged?
It depends on the workplace. AS/NZS 3760 sets intervals from three months for equipment on construction sites and in hire, to six months in factories and workshops, and up to five years for equipment in an office that is not subject to flexing or damage.
Is test and tag compulsory in Queensland?
For some workplaces, yes. The Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 requires equipment used in workplaces such as construction, manufacturing, rural industry and commercial cleaning to be tested. Other businesses still have a duty to keep equipment safe, and testing is the usual way to show it.
What happens to items that fail?
They are tagged out of service with a danger tag and set aside. Simple faults such as a damaged plug can often be repaired on the spot and retested.
How long does it take?
Most items take a minute or two each. A small office with 30 to 50 items is usually done in an hour or two, without much disruption.
Do you test portable RCDs?
Yes. Portable RCDs and RCD-protected powerboards are trip-time tested as part of AS/NZS 3760, and we can test the fixed RCDs at your switchboard on the same visit.
Can test and tag be part of a maintenance contract?
Yes. Many clients combine test and tag with emergency lighting testing and RCD testing on one schedule, with one register.
