Switchboard upgrades on the Gold Coast
Old fuse boards are the most common reason Gold Coast homes trip power, fail inspections and struggle with EV chargers, air conditioning and induction cooktops. We replace them with a compliant switchboard fitted with RCD safety switches, surge protection and room for the circuits you will add next.

Signs your switchboard needs upgrading
Most homes built on the Gold Coast before the mid-1990s still run on their original board. If any of these sound familiar, it is time for an electrician to take a look.
What's included in a switchboard upgrade
Every upgrade is scoped to your home, but most include the following.
New switchboard enclosure
A modern board with labelled circuit breakers and spare capacity for future circuits.
RCD safety switches
Safety switches on every power and lighting circuit, as required for new work in Queensland.
Surge protection
A whole-of-home surge diverter to protect appliances through Gold Coast storm season.
Meter box and Energex booking
We replace the meter panel where needed and book Energex to disconnect and reconnect supply.
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost on the Gold Coast?
Most single-phase homes land between $1,490 and $2,400. The final price depends on how many circuits you have, whether the meter box needs replacing, the condition of the existing wiring and whether Energex needs to attend. You get a fixed written price on site before any work starts.

FAQs
Switchboard questions
The questions we hear most before a switchboard upgrade.
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost on the Gold Coast?
Most single-phase homes land between $1,490 and $2,400. A board and meter box replacement typically starts around $2,400, and three-phase upgrades from $3,500. You get a fixed written price before we start.
How long will my power be off?
Usually four to six hours for a standard single-phase upgrade. We tell you the exact window when we book, and can stage the work so your fridge is off for as little time as possible.
Do I need a new switchboard to install an EV charger?
Not always. Many modern boards have room for a dedicated EV circuit. Older boards with ceramic fuses, or homes on a small supply, usually need an upgrade first. We check this as part of the EV charger quote.
Are safety switches compulsory in Queensland?
Any new or altered circuit must be protected by an RCD, and Queensland rental and sale rules require safety switches on power circuits. We recommend RCDs on every power and lighting circuit.
Will Energex need to attend?
If the meter box or main supply needs to be isolated, yes. We book Energex for you and coordinate the timing so you only deal with one trade.
Is the upgrade covered by a warranty?
Yes. All workmanship carries our 12-month warranty, and the switchboard components carry the manufacturer warranty.
