Southport electricians

Offices, units and older homes in the Gold Coast business district.

Southport is the oldest commercial centre on the Gold Coast, and its buildings show every decade. Offices and shops along Scarborough and Nerang Streets range from 1970s concrete to new mid-rise, there are unit blocks near the light rail and the hospital, and the residential streets hold some of the oldest brick homes and Queenslanders in the city.

Much of our Southport work is commercial: LED retrofits, office fit-outs, emergency lighting and test and tag, often done after hours so the business can keep trading. On the residential side we spend a lot of time on rewiring, switchboards and safety checks in homes that have not been touched in decades.

Local knowledge

Common electrical issues in Southport homes

What we deal with most in the Southport CBD, around Australia Fair and through the older residential streets.

01

Ageing office lighting

Fluorescent troffers and early LED panels are common in Southport offices. A planned LED retrofit cuts power bills and maintenance calls, and can be done floor by floor after hours.

02

Emergency and exit lighting compliance

Commercial tenancies must have emergency lighting tested every six months with a logbook. We find many sites with failed batteries and missing records.

03

Original wiring in older homes

Some Southport houses and Queenslanders still have rubber-insulated or early cable in the roof. It becomes brittle and is a real fire risk once disturbed.

04

Unit blocks and body corporate switchrooms

Older unit blocks often have tired main switchrooms and common area lighting that the body corporate needs reported and upgraded in stages.

What Southport clients say

“Three floors relit over two weekends and no disruption to staff.”

They planned the retrofit around our hours, cleaned up every night and handed over a lighting schedule at the end.

Southport · Commercial lighting

“Our exit light logbook is finally up to date.”

Tested every fitting, replaced the failed batteries and set us up on a six-monthly schedule. Clear and well priced.

Southport · Emergency lighting

“Careful work in an old house.”

They found original wiring in the roof and gave us a staged plan to replace it rather than doing everything at once.

FAQs

Southport questions

Can you work after hours in a Southport office?

Yes. Most of our commercial work in Southport is done early, late or on weekends so your staff and customers are not disrupted.

How often does emergency lighting need testing?

Every six months, with a full discharge test and a logbook entry, under AS/NZS 2293. We can take over the testing and keep the records for you.

Does my older Southport home need a rewire?

Not always. We inspect the roof space and test the insulation of the existing cable, then recommend a full rewire, a partial rewire or simply a new switchboard.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Southport businesses can book scheduled maintenance, testing and priority call-outs on a simple agreement with fixed rates.

How fast can you reach Southport in an emergency?

Typical arrival is 30 to 45 minutes, day or night, including weekends and public holidays.
