Terms of trade
Who these terms apply to
These terms apply to every quote, booking and job carried out by Volt One Electrical Pty Ltd (ABN 37 641 205 918, QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 00000) for homes and businesses across the Gold Coast. When you accept a quote or book a job with us, you agree to these terms.
We have written them in plain English. Nothing in them limits the rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
Quotes and pricing
Every quote is a fixed price in writing for the work it describes, and it is valid for 30 days from the date we issue it. After 30 days we may need to update the price if material costs have changed.
Our published starting prices, such as the call-out and first 30 minutes from $99, are a guide. Your electrician inspects the job, confirms the final fixed price on site and you approve it before any work begins. All prices include GST unless we say otherwise.
After-hours call-outs (6pm to 7am and weekends) start from $189, and public holidays from $249. We quote the after-hours rate on the phone before we head out.
Variations
If you ask for extra work, or we find something that could not reasonably be seen when we quoted, such as damaged cabling inside a wall or a switchboard that cannot safely take a new circuit, we stop and explain it to you.
We only carry out a variation once you have agreed to the extra work and its price in writing. A reply by text or email is enough. If you do not agree, we finish the work in the original quote where it is safe to do so.
Payment and deposits
For residential jobs, payment is due on completion. We email your invoice before we leave site, and you can pay by card, bank transfer or the payment link on the invoice.
For larger jobs, such as switchboard upgrades, rewires, EV charger and battery installs and commercial fit-outs, we may ask for a deposit to secure your booking and order materials. The deposit amount is shown on your quote and comes off the final invoice.
Commercial, strata and maintenance contract clients are invoiced on the account terms agreed in writing. Equipment we supply remains ours until it has been paid for in full.
Access and safety
Please give us safe, clear access to the switchboard, the work areas and any roof space or sub-floor we need to reach, and keep pets and children away from the work. If we arrive and cannot get access, we may charge the call-out fee.
Some work needs the power off for part of the day, and we will tell you beforehand. If we find asbestos, unsafe roof space or another hazard, we may pause the work until it is made safe.
If we find a dangerous electrical defect, Queensland electrical safety law requires us to make it safe. That can mean isolating the affected circuit or appliance until it is repaired, and we will always explain why.
Testing and certificates
All work is carried out by licensed electricians to the Australian wiring rules (AS/NZS 3000) and tested before we leave. You receive a Certificate of Testing and Safety by email, and where the law requires it we notify your energy distributor, for example for switchboard, solar and battery work.
Cancellations and rescheduling
You can cancel or move a booking free of charge with at least 24 hours notice. Call or email our office and we will find a new time.
If you cancel with less notice, we may charge the call-out fee. If you cancel a job after we have ordered materials for it, we refund your deposit less the cost of any materials that cannot be returned, which we hand over to you.
If weather, an emergency or illness means we need to reschedule, we will tell you as early as we can and offer the next available time.
Warranty and your consumer rights
Our work comes with a 12-month workmanship warranty, and manufacturer warranties pass through to you on the products we supply. Our goods and services also come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.
We hold $20 million public liability insurance. We are not responsible for faults in existing wiring or equipment we did not install, unless our work caused them. Nothing in these terms excludes any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
