Electrical fault finding on the Gold Coast

A safety switch that keeps tripping, a circuit that has gone dead or lights that flicker for no clear reason all have a cause, and finding it is a process, not guesswork. We test circuit by circuit until we find the fault, explain what caused it and fix it, usually on the same visit.

Faults we find and fix

These are the calls we get most. Many have a simple cause once the right circuit is tested.

A safety switch that trips straight away when you reset it
A safety switch that trips randomly, after rain or when one appliance runs
A whole circuit of lights or power points that has stopped working
Lights that flicker, dim or buzz across one or more rooms
A power point, switch or light fitting that is warm, scorched or crackling
Tingles from a tap, appliance or outdoor fitting

How we find the fault

We work methodically, so you only pay for the time it takes to find and fix the actual problem.

Isolate the circuit

We identify which circuit is causing the trip or outage by testing at the switchboard and unplugging appliances.

Test the wiring

Insulation resistance and continuity testing pinpoints damaged cable, water in outlets and failing connections.

Check the appliances

Faulty appliances are a common cause of tripping, so we test the suspects and tell you which one to replace.

Repair and retest

The fault is repaired, the circuit is retested and you are told what caused it and how to avoid it.

How much does fault finding cost on the Gold Coast?

Our $99 call-out covers travel, diagnosis and the first 30 minutes on site, and many faults are found and fixed in that time. If the repair takes longer or needs parts, we give you a fixed price before we continue. After-hours rates apply only to genuine emergencies, and we tell you the rate on the phone.

What clients say about our fault finding

“Found the fault in twenty minutes.”

Our outdoor power kept tripping the safety switch. They traced it to a cracked weatherproof outlet by the pool, replaced it and tested every circuit.

The safety switch kept tripping on a Sunday morning. They gave me the call-out rate on the phone, found a failed pool pump and had everything else running within the hour.

Lights flickering for months. Volt One tested the board properly and found a loose neutral. Fixed in one visit and explained clearly.

FAQs

Fault finding questions

What people ask when something stops working.

Why does my safety switch keep tripping?

Usually a faulty appliance, water in an outdoor outlet or light, or damaged wiring. Unplug everything on the circuit and reset. If it holds, plug things back in one at a time. If it still trips with nothing plugged in, call us.

Is it safe to keep resetting the safety switch?

No. A safety switch trips because it has detected current leaking to earth. Resetting it repeatedly without finding the cause can leave a real fault in place.

How much does it cost to find an electrical fault?

Our $99 call-out covers travel, diagnosis and the first 30 minutes, and many faults are fixed in that time. If it takes longer, we give you a fixed price before continuing.

Why do my lights flicker?

Loose connections, a failing LED driver, an incompatible dimmer or a supply issue. Flickering across several rooms, or with a burning smell, should be checked straight away.

Can you come after hours?

Yes. Our 24/7 line is answered by an electrician. After-hours call-outs start from $189, and we tell you the rate before we come out.

What if the fault is on the Energex side?

If your whole street is out or the fault is in the supply to your home, we will tell you and help you report it to Energex. We only charge for the time we spend.
