Emergency and exit lighting testing on the Gold Coast

Emergency and exit lights have to work for a full 90 minutes when the power fails, and the only way to know they will is to test them. We carry out six-monthly testing to AS/NZS 2293.2, keep your logbook up to date and replace failed fittings and batteries on the same visit wherever we can.

Signs your emergency lighting needs attention

Most failures are found during testing, not during an emergency. These are the warning signs between tests.

The logbook is missing, out of date or has gaps longer than six months
Exit signs are dim, flickering or show the old text-only design
Charging indicators on fittings are off or showing a fault
Fittings are older than their battery life, typically four to five years
A fit-out or layout change has moved exits or added rooms
Your fire safety adviser or insurer has flagged the emergency lighting

How a test visit works

01

Book around your trading

We schedule tests early morning, after hours or during quiet periods so the building can keep operating.

02

Discharge test

Each circuit is switched to battery for at least 90 minutes while we inspect every fitting and sign.

03

Replace and retest

Failed batteries and fittings are replaced where we have stock on the van, then retested.

04

Logbook and report

Results go into your logbook and you receive a report with any outstanding items priced.

Standards and compliance

Testing follows AS/NZS 2293.2, which sets six-monthly inspection and discharge testing, and new systems are designed and installed to AS/NZS 2293.1 by A-grade licensed electricians. Queensland's Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 requires fire safety installations such as emergency lighting to be maintained, and our logbooks and reports give the building occupier the records needed to show it.

What clients say about our emergency lighting work

Read all reviews

“Office relit over two weekends, no downtime.”

They retrofitted three floors to LED after hours so our staff never noticed. Emergency lights were tested and logged, and the invoice matched the quote.

Southport · Commercial lighting

“Logbook finally up to date.”

We had gaps going back two years. Ben tested every fitting, replaced the failed ones on the day and set us up on a six-monthly schedule.

Bundall · Emergency lighting testing

“Car park lights sorted in one visit.”

Eleven failed fittings across the stairwells and car park. Replaced with LED units and retested the same afternoon, with a report for the committee.

FAQs

Emergency lighting questions

What building owners and managers ask us most.

How often does emergency lighting need testing?

AS/NZS 2293.2 sets a six-monthly inspection and discharge test for most systems. Each test is recorded in the logbook kept for the building.

How long must emergency lights last on battery?

At least 90 minutes. The discharge test runs every fitting on battery for that time and checks it is still working at the end.

What happens if a fitting fails?

We record it in the logbook and replace the battery or fitting, usually on the same visit. Anything we cannot replace on the day is priced in the report.

Do I need the new running man exit signs?

New and replacement exit signs use the running man pictogram. Older text-only signs should be replaced when they fail or when the system is upgraded.

Who is responsible for emergency lighting in a leased building?

It depends on the lease. Usually the building owner or body corporate maintains base-building systems, and tenants maintain lights inside their fit-out. We can test for either.

Can testing happen without closing the business?

Yes. We test in sections, early morning or after hours, so normal lighting stays on and you can keep trading.
