Solar battery wiring and backup circuits on the Gold Coast

A home battery is only as good as the switchboard and circuits behind it. We get your board battery-ready, wire backup circuits for the things you want running in a blackout and install or connect the battery itself as a Clean Energy Council accredited installer, or work alongside your solar retailer's team.

When your home needs battery wiring

Most battery quotes assume your switchboard is ready. These are the situations where the electrical side needs attention first.

Your switchboard has ceramic fuses, no spare space or no RCD safety switches
You want lights, the fridge and internet to keep running during a blackout
You are adding a battery to an existing solar system and need the board checked
Your solar retailer has asked for a battery-ready board before install day
You are planning an EV charger and want the battery and charger to work together
Your inverter or battery location needs a new circuit or cable run

What's included in battery wiring

We scope the electrical work around the battery you have chosen and the circuits you want backed up.

Battery-ready switchboard

Board upgrades with space for the battery, inverter and backup gateway, plus RCD safety switches throughout.

Backup circuit sub-board

Essential circuits such as lights, fridge, internet and a few power points moved to a backed-up sub-board.

Battery install and connection

Battery and inverter installed and connected by our Clean Energy Council accredited team, including Tesla Powerwall.

Network paperwork and commissioning

Energex connection paperwork where required, commissioning, testing and a full handover of the app.

How much does battery wiring cost on the Gold Coast?

The electrical work around a battery usually adds between $890 and $2,400, depending on whether the switchboard needs replacing and how many circuits you want backed up. The battery itself is priced separately and depends on the product and size. Federal battery discounts are only available through an accredited installer using an approved battery, and we include them in your quote where they apply.

Our battery wiring process

01

Assess the board and site

We check your switchboard, solar inverter, battery location and the circuits you want backed up.

02

Fixed written quote

You get one price for the electrical work, with any battery hardware listed separately.

03

Approvals and install

We lodge network paperwork where required, then install and wire the system, usually in one day.

04

Commission and hand over

The system is tested, a blackout is simulated where the system supports backup and the app is set up with you.

Standards and compliance

Battery systems are installed to AS/NZS 5139 (battery system safety), AS/NZS 4777 (inverter connection) and AS/NZS 3000 (the Wiring Rules) by our Clean Energy Council accredited team, led by Josh Tane. We are Tesla Powerwall certified installers, place batteries only in locations the standard allows, and handle Energex connection requirements. You receive a Certificate of Testing and Safety.

What clients say about our battery work

Read all reviews

“Charger and battery working together from day one.”

Josh set up the 22 kW charger and battery so the car charges from the solar first. He walked us through the app and left the garage spotless.

Pimpama · EV charger and battery

“The lights stayed on through the last storm.”

They moved our fridge, lights and internet onto a backup board when the battery went in. Power went out for three hours and we barely noticed.

Rachel B.

Tallai · Battery backup

“Sorted the board before the battery arrived.”

Our retailer said the old board had to go first. Volt One replaced it in a day and the battery went straight in the following week.

FAQs

Battery wiring questions

What owners ask before adding a home battery.

Will a battery keep my power on in a blackout?

Only if the system is set up for backup. Many batteries need a backup gateway and a separate sub-board for the circuits you want to keep running. Without that, most systems switch off with the grid for safety.

Which circuits should be backed up?

Usually lights, the fridge, internet and a few power points. Air conditioners, ovens and pool pumps draw too much for most batteries to run for long, so we leave them on the main board unless you have a large system.

Do I need a new switchboard for a battery?

Not always. If your board has space, modern breakers and RCD safety switches, it may only need minor work. Older boards with ceramic fuses or no spare space usually need replacing first.

Are you accredited to install batteries?

Yes. Our team includes Clean Energy Council accredited installers and we are Tesla Powerwall certified installers. Accreditation matters because federal battery discounts are only available through an accredited installer.

Where can the battery go?

AS/NZS 5139 restricts batteries from habitable rooms, roof spaces and spots near exits, windows and some appliances. A garage wall or a sheltered external wall is common. We confirm the location on site.

Does Energex need to approve the battery?

In most cases a connection application is needed when you add or change an inverter. We handle the paperwork and tell you if there are export limits for your address.
