When to call

What counts as an electrical emergency

If any of these are happening, call us straight away, day or night. If someone has been hurt or a powerline is down, call 000 first.

Not urgent? A single dead power point or a flickering light can usually wait for a standard booking at normal rates.

Stay safe

What to do while you wait

Our electrician will talk you through this on the phone. Only do what feels safe, and never touch anything that is wet, hot or sparking.

Someone hurt or a powerline down?

Call 000 first. Stay at least 8 metres away from fallen powerlines and report them to Energex on 13 19 62.

01

Keep everyone clear

Move people and pets away from sparking outlets, smoke or water near electrics. Do not touch anyone who may be in contact with live power.

02

Switch off at the main

Only if the switchboard is dry, cool and not smoking. Use one dry hand, stand on a dry surface and turn the main switch off.

03

Unplug and leave breakers off

Unplug appliances on the affected circuit. If a breaker or safety switch trips again straight away, leave it off for us to test.

04

Keep your phone close

We call back with an arrival time and text when the electrician is on the way. Leave the gate unlocked and keep pets inside if you can.

After-hours pricing explained

An electrician is on call through the night, so after-hours work costs more than a weekday booking. You pay a fixed call-out that includes the first 30 minutes, then labour in 30-minute blocks. We quote the rate on the phone before we leave.

What clients say after an emergency call

“Answered at 11pm and here in 40 minutes.”

Our power went out in a storm and the board was buzzing. The electrician talked us through switching off, arrived quickly and had the lights back on before midnight.

Rebecca S.

Burleigh Heads · Emergency call-out

“Calm, quick and upfront on price.”

The safety switch kept tripping on a Sunday morning. They gave me the call-out rate on the phone, found a failed pool pump and had everything else running within the hour.

Tom W.

Southport · Fault finding

“Saved a full cool room of stock.”

Our cool room lost power at 4am. Volt One had an electrician on site before 5 and power back on before the first delivery. We are now on their maintenance plan.

FAQs

Emergency electrician questions

What people ask us most when the power goes out after hours.

How much does an emergency electrician cost on the Gold Coast?

After-hours call-outs start from $189 on weeknights and weekends, including the first 30 minutes on site. Public holiday rates are higher. We tell you the exact rate on the phone before we leave, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

How quickly can you get to me?

Most Gold Coast homes see an electrician within the hour, and central suburbs are often faster. Hinterland call-outs can take up to 75 minutes. We give you an arrival time when you call and text when we are on the way.

Should I call an electrician or Energex?

Call Energex on 13 19 62 if the whole street is out or a powerline is down. If your neighbours have power and you do not, or the problem is inside your property, call us.

Is a tripping safety switch an emergency?

If it trips once and resets, it can usually wait for a standard booking. If it trips straight back off, or you have lost power to fridges, medical equipment or a business, call our emergency line.

Can you fix the problem on the first visit?

Most of the time, yes. Our vans carry switchboard parts, breakers, safety switches and common fittings. If a part is not on board, we make the property safe, restore power where we can and come back at standard rates.
